The Loop 21

The Loop 21 is a news site focused on economics and politics for African Americans. It averages near 1,000 pageviews per day and was launched in January 2009.
My role: Web Editor
My accomplishments and duties:
- Planned and maintained Web site with Drupal content management system with assistance from developers
- Copy edited and packaged stories to improve hits and presentation using design, HTML and SEO practices
- Managed transition from stock photos to photo subscription service (Getty)
- Spearheaded social media efforts, resulting in three top referrers. We used Twitter, Facebook and Stumble Upon among other services to improve hits and gain new readers
- Created interactive graphics with Many Eyes and other data visualization software
- Designed static graphics for header and promotions using GIMP, Illustrator and other programs
- Created e-mail and print marketing materials in conjunction with marketing and public relations professionals. Worked with staff on copywriting for materials and applied themes and ideas to marketing materials
- All efforts resulted in traffic growth from 100 to 1,000 page views per day during the time I was there
